How do I keep my hair curly the whole day?

I curl my hair & it'll usually stay that way for maybe the first few hours of my day, but it goes flat after a while then I have to pull it up before it starts to look really crappy at school. Is there anything that doesn't leave a carbon footprint (hairspray) that will help it stay the way it is? Thanks!! :)
